SCOTLAND ENDURED 170 MPH ATLANTIC STORM CAUSING WIDESPREAD DISRUPTION, DAMAGE
Cairn Gorm Summit in the Central Highlands, elevation: 4, 085 feet experienced an astonishing wind gust of at least 165 mph
While a rapidly deepening Atlantic low pushed towards Scotland early this morning, the tough decision was made to shutdown schools across a large part of Scotland in anticipation of destructive winds which would cause massive travel issues, structural damage and powerloss. Well, this rash and extremely rare closure was justified when 80 to 100 mph plus winds roared in.
A selection of some of the highest winds recorded around the UK on Thursday are:
Cairngorm Summit: 165 mph
Aonach Mor: 145 mph
Glen Ogle 114 mph
