Continent Pattern continues to change as season advances closer to winter with strong Atlantic jet and westerly storm track shifting south through UK

While Monday will be another very wet and windy day across Scotland, England and Wales by Tuesday looks to bare the brunt of gale-force winds and heavy rains this week as the next low pressure centre pushes across Scotland

HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS OF THE PAST 24-HOURS

Last night saw an increase in wind speed, particularly over the northeast of Scotland and across the Northern Isles

The strongest gust was recorded atop Cairngorm Summit near Aviemore in the Central Highlands at an impressive category 2 hurricane strength 114 mph.

The strongest surface wind was recorded at Fair Isle, located half way between Orkney and Shetland at 90 mph.

Other Hurricane-Force Gusts

82 mph at Wick, Caithness, 80 mph at Kirkwall, Orkney, 75 mph at Loftus, N. Yorkshire, 70 mph at Blackford Hill, Edinburgh
