Mark’s European Outlook

It remains unsettled across southwestern Europe and interestingly, several sources suggest the curl of cloud which was so devastating to parts of Italy and France over the past several days may in fact have developed into a tropical storm and imagery would certainly suggest that this feature looks like one over the western Mediteranean where waters are in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees (18-21C).

To the north of the Med, high pressure remains the dominant feature and is ultimately keeping the majority of central, western and northern Europe quiet and perhaps even boring if your a true weather enthusiast like myself. Albeit cloudy in many areas across the UK France, Low Countries across Germany and Poland as well as up over Scandinavia. Further east of course it remains chilly but that cold has eased somewhat with temps nearer freezing rather than -10C in Moscow.

However, the models continue suggesting a huge cold pool develops to the east and spreads out over much of Russia. This brutal cold will eventually march east into Europe by this weekend and the colder air is likely to return to Moscow and even across Scandinavia, possibly erasing the mild autumn weather by next week.

The big question remains, will Britain see it’s first proper cold spell of the season by perhaps next weekend? I shall continue to keep you posted on this? More tomorrow, stay tuned…
