>Nearly 1″ of snow has fallen on State College, which is almost bang slap in the center of Pennsylvania. Center County is getting hit hard with heavy, wet snow which on the valley floor, snow has accumulated to 1″ (perhaps more by now), surrounding mountains are likely seeing perhaps 2-3 inches and the big concern is trees that are already well soaked and therefore weakened some by summer rains, may come down.
The danger is always greatest in early season, mostly due to the fact that trees still have plenty of leaf coverage and therefore it only takes an inch or two for the thing to come down. That as well as powerlines.
From West Virginia, through PA to southern New England has a real concern over this system dropping anywhere from between 1-6 inches that will create major tree damage as well as loss of power to many.
Meteorologists at AccuWeather are enjoying the snow falling on their own back yard right as I type this. They normally talk about events happening in other parts of the country and world but today, the headlines are breaking right in their own back yard. If over 1 inch of snow falls which I believe may have already happened, then they will have witnessed their earliest, heaviest snowfall on record!!
More on this story as it unfolds.
Thanks for reading.
