The 33-degree low at Embarrass, Minnesota was evidence of how cool and dry this air is that has carved a clean bowl across much of the eastern half of the continent. High’s of only 81 at Memphis yesterday would be below normal even in Minneapolis and that is cool for Memphis for late July when 90s and high humidity is normally the rule. 69 degree lows on the Florida panhandle is more the normal in North Dakota and humidity levels usually keep late July lows in the upper 70s. But 69 in late July along the Gulf coast is almost unheard id have thought.
Interesting notes.. Boston was warmer than Memphis and not because of thunderstorms but because of the intensity of Canadian high pressure that work against intense July sunshine to keep the temperature significantly down. It’s amazing when looking at such low heights all the way into the Tennessee Valley where highs where as cool as 76 degrees whilst Boise hit 106 degrees. 92 in Glasgow, MT whilst Minneapolis shivered at 67. Note the remarkable 69 in northern Kentucky.
The cool daytime air yesterday allowed radiational cooling to plunge the lows this morning deep into the heart of central Mississippi to 61 degrees.
I shall update numbers tomorrow. Good night and thanks for reading.
