Brief Surge Of Spring Warmth To Follow A White Easter Monday?

The clocks may have changed and it may be April now but winter refuses to let go. A system travelling northwards into a cold pool of air parked over the UK is producing heavy snow as well as heavy rain this morning and shall through the rest of the day further north.

Here’s the latest…

As the day wears on, so the rain, sleet, snow and wind continues to track north while there’s clearing and indeed milder air lifting into the southern UK creating quite the N-S thermal contrast by teatime this evening.

It’s still tough to say how much snow will fall at LOW LEVELS, could be a coating to an inch but if the heaviest stuff falls later into this evening, amounts could be far higher.

With the precip shield bumping up against the banana shaped blocking high to the north, precip continues to reign over Scotland and so snow amounts in the hills could really tally up.

With the ‘pivoting’ nature of the low being deflected by the high, the low and shield of moisture gets pushed back south. So while central/southern Scotland go from snow to rain over the next 36 hours, we could well see the return of snow later Wednesday into Thursday as colder air digs back in as the low slides east out into the North Sea.

Once that system is off the playing field another moves in from the SW but this time we could be looking at drier, brighter and with the help of SSW winds… warmer air!
