Low pressure off Ireland Aug 20th 2016 vs 2017!

Today is quieter than recent days thanks to the departure of low pressure. The resbite is brief however as one low pulls out only allowing the remnants of Gert to move into southwestern areas this evening. Both Friday and Saturday saw gusty winds and frequent heavy, thundery showers.

Today is MUCH better.

Interestingly low pressure dominated last year’s UK pattern at this time. The low last year turned out to be a right beast and beautiful on visible satellite.

Yesterday vs the same day last year…

The Met Office charts showed a winter-like cyclone spinning west of Ireland on this day last year, funnily enough we have low pressure approaching that same position today into tomorrow.

That low last year helped draw hot, humid air into the UK from the continent and it looks like we’ll see the same with this years low.

24th Aug last year.
