It’s been a fascinating last 5 days of weather. ONE SYSTEM dropped over a foot of rain and 8-10ft of snow in California and drove temps to 44 below zero in Wyoming and 40 below in Laramie, WY (5th coldest on record) behind the storm.

The bombardment off the Pacific in the past week has left very impressive precipitation amounts in California.

Late last week’s system which hammered California also brought a decent weekend snowstorm from N Georgia up through the Carolinas, VA, NJ into southeast New England. This also brought the season’s first snow to DC. It also played a role in whitening 49 of the 50 US states, the exception being Florida.

Behind the system, the thermometer dipped to 3 below zero in Oklahoma City, the first subzero low since Feb 2012 when Oklahoma set a new all-time record low of 31 below zero at Nowata.

With a 1040+ surface high directly over a snow covered North Carolina and Virginia this morning, temps are downright frigid! A touch less cold south and north of HP core if you notice.
