Oh how the tide has turned… Alaska witnessed their first -50 yesterday morning while a deep low crossed the N Plains bringing blizzard conditions but also opening the door to the coldest air mass of the season. -37 recorded at Bondurant, Wyoming this morning made for the Lower 48’s coldest reading.

This is the same system which dumped 18 inches of snow on Bismarck where 60+mph winds built snow drifts 6ft high.


The steady growth of North American snow cover is harnessing this distinctly December-like air mass now driving south.

This morning was by far the coldest of the season for the Northwest interior.

This week’s cold departs by the weekend but another even stronger shot comes down next week but amazingly the GFS has even worse cold the following week.
