North America Turned A Warm Corner? Cold Trend In Models With Benefit From Next Strat Warming?

There have already been two noteworthy stratospheric warming events.

Both of which have delivered cold to Asia and Europe but left North America out.

However could the model projected 3rd stratospheric warming event allow NA to join in on the cold?

That’s of course IF there’s an SWE.

Even ahead of any SWE, we appear to be turning a very warm corner. The past weekend snowstorm may have dropped 2ft over northern Minnesota but with the help of lake-enhancement, Redfield in NY’s Tug Hill was buried beneath 54 inches of snow! The 27.6 inches in Binghamton was in fact their biggest snowfall in a single event on record.

We have a colder trend as we depart a record warm November and enter meteorological winter’s opening month as positive heights building over the North Pacific and Hudson Bay are expected to merge, deepening a trough beneath.

CFSv2 for December continues trending colder and colder for the West. Very La Nina-like.
