The seesaw is ready to swing the other way as the warm air currently over the UK will be over snowbound Romania, Ukraine and W Russia by late weekend as seen from the below GFS 2m temp anomaly charts.

Last night and tonight are the coldest of the season for eastern Europe, especially over deep snow cover.
Frosty scene like this one across much of Poland this morning.

Current temp.

Hope you’ve enjoyed the relative calm and warmth of course to start the week. Change arrives tomorrow as an active cold front swings through replacing our subtropical treat with the old polar-maritime stuff tomorrow. In the wake of the front we stall remain in a noticeably cold W, NW flow with snow levels dropping thanks to low pressure near Iceland pulling air in from the arctic.
It’s a nippy, bumpy ride as cold wind crossing a relatively warm ocean, enhances convective shower activity with rain, sleet and snow mix possibly reaching low levels.

Water temp of 10-12C lapping UK shores verses -5 to -10C at 5,000ft enhances lift and the hefty showers which do form transfer cold downwards very well, hence the risk of snow to low levels late this week.

First Named Storm Lurking?
The models are honing in on potentially our first wind storm of the 2016-17 this Sunday. If remains don’t back down, I could see a name put on this storm track storm.
