Mild UK, Cold Eastern Europe With First Major Snow For Romania, Ukraine

Written by on November 13, 2016 in Rest of Europe, United Kingdom & Ireland, Winter 2016/17 with 0 Comments

The Arctic air which opened November from UK to Germany is getting pushed east and replaced by Atlantic air. While last week saw daytime highs only muster 3-6C from Glasgow to Berlin, the return of southwest winds have forced a 6-8, locally 10C temperature rise.

The UK may be back in the 11-15C range with rain spreading into Scotland, sun for England and Wales but the cold holds Monday-Tuesday across Germany before retreating into Poland.

However, winter conditions shall hold firm across eastern Europe with low pressure set to produce a major snowstorm from Romania up through Ukraine

We have two distinct lows driving very different weather on opposite ends of the continent. Atlantic low pressure is driving mild oceanic air across the UK and near continent while a low over eastern Romania draws on increasingly bitter air over Russia, fuelling the first major snowstorm for Romania and much of Ukraine.

This will be a major snowfall for northern Romania and much of Ukraine.
