While the first half of summer was hottest in West and average or even a little below average in parts of the East, the 2nd half of summer 2016 has turned considerably warmer and more humid and humidity has in some cases been exceptional. That humidity has helped hold night time lows up, helping make this summer all the warmer.
The last 30 days appears to be warmest on record for many or most recording stations from eastern Massachusetts to South Carolina. Notice it’s sites nearest the Atlantic!

For the entire 90 days of summer from June 1 through August 31, summer 2016 will be one of the warmest and a top 5 for many up and down the East Coast.

A significant contributor to the high heat is likely down to El Nino while the humidity is down to a record warm Gulf and Atlantic.
August and Summer’s conclusion is a warm one in the East but according to the CFSv2 it’s not as warm to open September and Fall.
