Could Wimbledon 2016 Be A Repeat Of The French Open, Plagued By Rain Delays?

The incredible instability created by a clash of air masses looks to ease into next week as fresher air off the Atlantic takes over.

Unfortunately this less unstable air comes with low pressure and though less humid, wetter, windier spells shall be frequent. Like we saw all too often with this years French Open.

For Wimbledon, I suspect rain delays will play a significant role in the opening week of Wimbledon 2016, possibly week two also.

Models are in good agreement that a series of fronts sweep across Ireland and the UK through next week and although the wettest weather is north of London, showers, maybe thunderstorms will cause issues.

The 2016 Wimbledon looks very different to last year when Heathrow witnessed the warmest July day in UK history with 36.7C surpassing the previous July record of 36.5C set in 2006.

As well as it being the UK’s warmest July day, it was also Wimbledon’s warmest day in history.

Likely To Be At Least 10C Cooler This Year

Upper 20s, never mind upper 30s may be a stretch this year given the fact a trough looks to dominate the northeast Atlantic while the ridge is positioned well to the southeast.

Wimbledon says that since 1922, only seven tournaments have experienced no weather delays. The last rain-free tournament came in 2010.

Wettest weather will always be further north but spells of rain and or showers will be a factor throughout the tournament.
