Don’t put the winter clothes away just yet. You’ll thank me by the weekend!
The NAO goes briefly positive during this week which means Greenland cool’s (-40s back over the interior this morning) and ridging establishes over Ireland and UK providing fine, dry and settled conditions. Early week gales across the NW of Scotland eases down. Sunshine and light winds will mean temps climb to between 13-15, locally 17C Wednesday/Thursday up and down the UK, by night, it turns chilly with a chance of rural frost, remaining above freezing in towns and cities.

The positive as you can see doesn’t last long.

GFS surface shows the high dominating through Thursday but notice how the high begins to retrograde west and eventually northwest back up into Greenland while a low drops south over Scotland. This ‘arctic front’ reintroduces late season arctic air, bringing back the cold mid single figure highs and below freezing wind chills with a threat of snow to lower levels once again.

Very impressive GFS snow forecast through the next 10 days for UK.

Looks like the colder than normal persists through next week… Note how cold the 6-10 day is looking.
