The final tally from the Colorado snowstorm appears to be an impressive 50.6 inches near Pincliffe.

Now the big story turns to the Texas flood emergency.
As is often the case, the models have simply failed to see just how much rain was going to fall within just the first 24 hours never mind 5 day period.
The same system which dropped feet of snow across the Colorado high country has stalled over the Central Plains and with strong upper energy and cold, dry air running over top of warm, moist air lifting out of Mexico and plugging rich moisture out of the tropics, the ingredients all came together with tremendous upward motion.

With the stalled nature of this system, thunderstorms remained either stuck or trained over Houston, bringing 4 inch per hour rain rates with an astonishing 10-14 inches falling within 6 hours …

This is what 15-20 inches does within 24 hours to the Greater Houston area.

As well as the incredible rainfall, we’ve also seen up to 90,000 lightning strikes within 24 hours. Evidence of the incredible energy within this vast heat and water pump!

Unfortunately this situation is far from over. Further flooding storms will affect east Texas up through the Plains today and through the next several given the stalled nature of the system trapped between strong high pressure to the east and west.
