It was a cold start to Friday and this chill deepens later today and particularly this evening as arctic air meets a low coming up from the SW.
While sleet and snow showers run the chilly north flow over Scotland and N England, it’s more organised moisture meeting the cold over the N York Moors and Midlands that’s worth watching tonight as rain could well turn more and more to snow and even at lower levels.

Looking longer term, winds veer westerly Sunday meaning less cold air and then heights rise into the new workweek, making for some very usable weather for outdoor chores Mon-Wed.
The NAO remains firmly negative with positive centred over Iceland but during next week, as high pressure builds into the UK and near continent, so we see a reversal in the height field and return of positive NAO. However, this appears to be short lived as the positive looks see to return to Iceland and this means the cool theme remains.
