This unusually wintry open to April continues with the latest snow system now departing the Midwest and entering the Northeast. A cold Canada is feeding this system like it did the last and will make for an impressive snow swath through N Ohio, northern Pennsylvania and quite possibly North Jersey and Greater NYC by tomorrow.

I’m not backing away from the fact that models continue to show a deeper trough over NYC this weekend than early last week and with a fresh 2-4 or 3-6 inch swath of snow followed by clear sky and arctic air in place, parts of NY, PA, WV and MD could threaten 0 degrees Sunday morning. Remarkable for this late.

Even if it isn’t any colder than the last arctic blast, keep in mind this is occurring a week later in APRIL when warmth not cold should be becoming the talking point.
Here’s the latest GFS surface. Note rain is likely to change over to moderate, perhaps heavy snow through NYC.

In the immediate wake of the system, even colder air than last weekend looks to sweep in and could present ‘coldest so late’ or even all-time April record lows to many from Ontario to West Virginia.

Hate this late season snow and cold? Don’t worry, it’s April and this is what the models are showing within 10 days…
