Pacific Parade Continues For California, Next Arctic Cold Wave Sweeps Over Midwest

Written by on January 16, 2016 in United States of America, Winter 2015/16 with 0 Comments

I must start today’s write-up with a glance at the formation of the very rare Hurricane Alex, the first January Atlantic Hurricane to form in 78 years. The system is now post tropical and heading towards Greenland so no impact to US but a meteorological rarity which needed to be shown. It had wind and rain impacts through the Azores a coupled of days ago.

It continues to be a busy US weather pattern with severe weather over Florida yesterday while the next wave of bitter arctic air and stronger than last weekend is now dropping into the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest.

The surface low spinning over the Carolinas was responsible for the severe weather over Florida and heavy rain over the Carolinas.

Meanwhile, as that next low pushes across Florida, the core of the next arctic air mass progresses south through the Midwest this weekend and is sure to deliver the coldest air of the winter from Minneapolis through Chicago to Indianapolis surpassing levels seen last weekend.
