While the East prepares for the first cold of the season, it remains record hot in the Southwest. Death Valley received a record 107 degree high yesterday while Las Vegas tied a record at 95.

Mind that low which brought heavy rains to the Southwest way back about a week ago and drifted out to sea, well it’s coming back in.

GFS surface shows the first ‘arctic high’ driving the first appreciable cold of the seasonĀ into the Lower 48 with interaction between a a near 1035 high sliding into the Heartland while a low crossing from Great Lakes to New England that may bring the first accumulating snow also. Lake effect snow is also possible with this setup.
