Today not just represents the hottest day of summer for NYC but 5th 90+ for Sept and most since 1983. NYC also sits in 3rd place for most 70+ degree nights since 1950.

Boston’s 96 is hottest of year and if it hits 90+ tomorrow, this would be officially the first September heat wave in 32 years.

As had been the case all summer, the heat hits then leaves as the next troughs digs but this looks likely to be followed by another ridge.

GFS operational 5-day mean 500mb height anomalies.
