Within the past 10 days, I posted an article on the gruelling heat wave torturing Iraq. As expected, yet another surge of extreme heat is bringing temperatures widely above 120F, forcing the government to issue it’s second ‘heat holiday’.

This holiday, like the last is due to the combination of high temperature, frequent power cuts, water shortages and lack of air conditioning. Not forgetting the 3 million Iraqi’s displaced by the ongoing conflict, many of which live within oven-like tents.

People buy blocks of ice in Basra, 340 miles (550 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad, Iraq, Thursday, July 30, 2015. Scorching temperatures are normal this time of year, but an unprecedented heat wave prompted Iraqi authorities to declare a mandatory four-day holiday beginning Thursday. The government has urged residents to stay out of the sun and drink plenty of water. (AP Photo/ Nabil al-Jurani)
