High Pressure To Become Dominant Force Next 10-Days For Western Europe, Winter Holds In SE For Now!

The last in a series of fronts will clear the UK through the next 24 hours, so after a dull and dreary Good Friday for many, we turn to drier and somewhat milder Saturday into Easter Sunday and it’s that theme that carries us through next week.

The one fly in the ointment will be cloud cover. There will be a lot of it but thankfully, that cloud shouldn’t produce much in the way of rain and so while cloudy, dry conditions and temps in the 10-15C range shouldn’t feel too bad for getting out and about.

While a big ridge of high pressure builds into our western shores this Easter weekend, a deep trough continues to drive winter-like air into central and eastern Europe.

It’s been a fairly wet past 7 days here but the upcoming 7 will be pretty dry as see by the QPF rainfall forecast.

Plenty of moisture (both rain and snow) for southern Iberia and south, southeast Europe.

Here’s the GFS snow chart through the next 7 days. Winter doesn’t want to let go of SE Europe!

GFS surface shows high crossing UK next 192 hours to a position which could pull warm air north bringing first low 20s!

Some models take the ridge into the Northern UK through the second half of next week which means brighter skies and SSE winds over Southern UK which isn’t so cold now but rather drier and therefore sunnier.

The below GFS ensemble 5-day means show the same as the above surface over a longer time frame with the ridge eventually shifting EAST of the UK and that’s an interesting position. Allows the Atlantic to become more involved again but it’s the combo of low to the west, high to the east which could drive the warmth northward.

What starts off as a chilly NW flow for Norway and Denmark becomes very settled with the high building overhead.

CFSv2 weeklies show the ridge core shifting from W position off Ireland week 1 into the Norwegian Sea week 2 then retreat south towards the Azores week 3.
