The GFS continues to show a cold NW feed of air across Ireland and the UK throughout this week with high pressure building in from the west this upcoming Easter weekend. Within this flow we’ll see systems push through enhancing wind and wind which may lead to snow and not solely confined to the hills, especially on their backside. Will feel distinctly chilly for the end of March beginning of April.

GFS snow through the next 7 days looks like this across the continent. Most accumulation here in the UK should be high elevation. Tougher to get it to stick at low levels now.

As for Easter weekend, the model builds a high into the cold air that by then will be established over the UK and this sets the stage for a very chilly weekend. Particularly by night under clear skies and light winds.

Just look at where the models sees the lows Saturday morning… -9 in the Highlands? Possible if there’s snow on the ground.

Looking at the broader view across Europe to start Easter Sunday. Looks like many will get to freezing or below. Much of the UK away from the coast should see a frost. Check out southern Norway! -20s here.

Looking ahead beyond the weekend and the GFS ensemble holds a positive over the UK.

In terms of how warm we’ll feel will all depend on the exact positioning of the high. I still believe we warm up as well as settle down towards mid month and the CFSv2 certainly shows more Atlantic trough/UK ridge into mid month.

Summer Forecast comes out this Wednesday!!
