As warmth tracks northward this week, so snow pack warms and melts further.
The deep Northeast snowpack is fair getting chipped away from the ‘southern edges’.

All the yellow area is where the model sees snow gone by 48 hours.

Still over 40 inch depths up in Maine.

Ongoing severe to extreme drought set’s stage for plenty of stronger than normal ridging as we head towards the warm season.

Abnormally warm water offshore combined with the drought will help support warmer than normal conditions over land with increased potential of heat waves. The overall setup is similar to 2006.

As for next week, we’ve got the cold trough diving back into the East bringing the return of cold and some snow but hey, check out the potential strat warming off the ECMWF ensemble in the longer range. This, if materialised, would sure extend and possibly enhance the colder pattern well into April and could spark a very cold end to March/start to April.
