Thanks to the return of West Coast storms, warm, dry Chinook winds this weekend and sent temps soaring throughout the Southern and Central Plains.
Check out these highs from yesterday.

It got up to 86 in Gage, Okla, 81 as far north as Hill City, Kan and 71 all the way to Rapid City, SD. Thank winds racing at up to 120 mph over the Rockies and compressional warming on the lee side.
That high of 86 in Gage actually surpassed the old record by an astonishing 14 degrees yesterday of 72 which was set back in 2009.
Yep, there’s that next snow system pushing through the Northeast as of this writing.
Check out this amazing snow scene from Boston tonight and the latest snowstorm is only just getting started.

Bill Gonzalo who took the above photo asks, where do we put the new snow? Good question!

NWS Boston snow forecast through Tuesday. Impressive!

Believe it or not but ANOTHER system follows this Thursday. Check out the arctic high descending south on the backside and super low thicknesses. This could be serious given depth of cold projected and depth of snow cover in New England!

Then it gets a touch cold!!
This is just crazy even for a model to suggest this…
Next Sunday AM.

A scary close up!

I understand that up till now, all modelling has overdone the cold but based on pattern vs snow cover, this is certainly on the table. Do I think the GFS is overdone with next weekend? Probably.. I hope so because if it’s right, the Northeast will more resemble Siberia with power outages etc. Even if it’s off by 20 degrees, this is still severe cold and worst in years.
See today’s video for the discussion.
More tomorrow.
