Record Florida Snow Accompanies Frigid Air Mass / East Coast Storm Next Week?

Though it may not be quite as extreme as last January, the much anticipated, near 1060 arctic high hasn’t disappointed cold weather lovers with not just the bitter chill reaching all the way to the Gulf Coast but SNOWFALL has been spotted over Florida.

It even snowed THIS AFTERNOON in Jacksonville.

It hit 4 in Nashville, Tn this morning. Here’s a look back at how cold it can get!

We are forecasting 4 degrees above zero Thursday morning in Nashville. This will be the coldest air to invade Middle Tennessee since January 29th of 2014 when the temperature fell to 2 degrees above zero in Nashville. 2 degrees also occurred on January 7th 2014 and was the coldest temperature in Nashville last winter (2013-14).

Nashville hasn’t been below zero since February 5th 1996 but some outlying areas have.

The all-time record coldest temperature in Nashville is -17 degrees on January 21st 1985.

Though cold this morning and through today, this is not last January’s outbreak. It was considerably colder in the Northern Tier. Especially Minneapolis and Chicago.

Temps in both Minneapolis and Chicago this January (so far) aren’t in the same league as last year.

Hum, I think it’s safe to say that the ECMWF snow chart is a little overdone.

Recent strat warming is likely to keep the cold theme going.

We may see a pullback but I expect equally intense cold to return late month!
