Frigid Open To US Winter 2014-15

Written by on November 30, 2014 in United States of America with 0 Comments

It looks like November 2014 ends in the top 5 for cold as another hammer comes down out of the arctic.

We’ve a major battle between warm and cold this morning with temps are crashing to the north. The resurge in heights over Alaska in recent days is forcing another southward push of North America’s coldest air.

Temps hit -41 over the Yukon Friday and yesterday morning it was near -40 over Alberta.

It was warm over the Rockies and particularly the Plains yesterday but now that the front has pushed through with winds gusting 80 mph, the thermometer has fallen OVER 60 degrees within 12 hours.

Despite the current +AO and warm-up coming to the Lower 48 as December and meteorological winter commences, the 10mb warming from Siberia into North America and a more favourable MJO suggests more very cold weather will dive into the Lower 48 mid to late month.

By the MJO entering phase 6, this would help recurve a possible developing W Pacific Typhoon and reinforce a cold US pattern.

Forget a possible recurving typhoon and favourable MJO, the last strat warming alone produced this trough.

Great to see the biggest US rains are taking aim at California next 5 days.
