Mesoscale Convective Systems Becoming A Part Of The Pattern, Feeding Big Plains Rains!

It’s the time of year for MCS’s and derechos and that’s exactly what we’ve seen in recent days.

Check out the SPC storm report from yesterday and note the line of damaging wind reports stretching from Kansas to the Carolinas. This was courtesy of a MCS and derecho.

Tonight we have another over the central plains as well as into the Mid-South where we’ve seen and continue to see flooding rains.

Note the corridor of cooler temps right where the storms are.

850mb temps/anomalies at 24 hrs very conductive for supporting and formation of MCS’s.

The 500mb chart shows the perfect setup for MCS production each night through the next 3 or 4.

The next several nights look perfect for additional MCS’s over the Plains with major rains likely. The model sees it.
