MON 4 NOV: UK & IRELAND REGIONAL FORECAST

Scotland

It was a cold start across the country this morning and a bright but much cooler day compared to what we’ve been use to. The temperature is quickly falling now as the sun is back below the horizon and one can expect a frost to form in many inland areas within the next couple of hours. However change arrives later in the night as the next Atlantic front swings the next band of rain accompanied by a gusty wind. The rain quickly turns to snow over the higher ground by morning. Overnight lows range from 1 or 2C in towns in the west to -6C in rural parts of the east, especially the Grampians where we could get to -7C.

Tuesday will see an east west split with strongest wind and rain in the west, while it’s drier, brighter and somewhat less blustery in the east. Highs remain low tomorrow but closer to average than it has been at 6-9C.

Wednesday looks to be much the same with rain in the west, bright or sunny skies in the east. Snow in the hills.

England

It’s been a largely fine, dry but chilly start to the work week across England with overnight rain in the far South clearing while hit and miss showers dotting the Midlands clears this evening. A clear, chilly night to come with initial frost in rural inland Western parts but this will quickly disappear as wind and rain spreads in from the Irish Sea overnight tonight. East of the Pennines and it may dip to between 0 and -3C. Further West and it holds at 5 or 6C through the night, perhaps 10-13C in the Southwest.

Tuesday will see the rain and wind spread east but the rain band breaks up as it pushes east, though the rain will manage to work across the far South but never really doing much east of the Pennines. While mainly dry and bright from Northumberland to Norfolk, it’s a dull, blustery and damp day further west. Temperatures stay cool at between 9-13C.

A more organised area of rain spreads into the South tomorrow night into Wednesday and this could bring a decent soaking.

Wales

It’s been a fairly decent start to the week across Wales after a rough weekend but after a chilly start to the evening, the cloud and rain quickly pushes in from the west tonight. Wind and rain will dominate the overnight and start to Tuesday before the main band clears and sunshine and blustery showers follow. Winds could be strong to gale-force tomorrow along the coast. The best of the drier, brighter weather in the east.

Another batch of more organised rain pushes into South and Mid Wales Wednesday, best of any dry weather in the North.

Northern Ireland

It’s a wet and blustery night to come across Ulster after a fine, dry but chilly day after a hard frost this morning. Temperatures tonight go no lower than 1-2C, a big difference from the -6C recorded at Katesbridge this morning.

After tonight wind and rain clears through Tuesday morning, it’s pretty much a day of sunshine and chilly blustery showers. Highs tomorrow stay cold at 5 or 6C, feeling colder in the brisk west wind.

Wednesday looks to remain bright at times but in between the sunshine, heavy showers will prevail along with the stiff west wind.

Ireland

It’s a wet and windy night to come thanks to the arrival of the next Atlantic low. Temperatures hold much higher than last night at between 3-11C.

Thankfully the main rain band should be mostly gone by dawn Tuesday but a stiff westerly wind will keep the showers going throughout the day. Highs tomorrow won’t be anything to write home about at between 9-13C.

More wind and rain to come Wednesday.
