Happy Valentines Day!
Hope you all have a good one. Today is certainly a much improved day compared to yesterday with just some passing showers but notice the sunnier skies, oh and yes.. the much milder breeze? This my friends is a sign of things to come with an even better day coming up for your Friday. Mostly sunny skies, lighter winds and yes, in the sun and with little wind around, it’s going to feel positively balmy out there.
Perhaps you and your special someone is wishing to get away for a couple of nights this weekend? If so, it’s looking likely to be the best weather weekend of 2013 as a moderate Azores high builds north into the UK. This will protect us from Atlantic lows, cold arctic or easterly winds. We got that taster of better weather today and tomorrow into the weekend, pressures build, providing mostly sunny skies with the exception being northern Scotland but elsewhere, it’s looking dry, bright and mild with temperatures ranging from 7 to 11C, that’s slightly above average for many!
You will want to snuggle up at night though as those clear skies and light winds allow that mild air which builds during the day, to quickly escape back to space at night. A light frost is possible by night but by day, it’s very pleasant.
The ridge will extend our streak of pleasant weather and a break from storminess into early next week.

Pattern Does Not Allow Mild To Settle, Winter Returns With Vengence Next Week!
Make the most of this next 3 or 4 days as the mild won’t last. This pattern we’re in is simply not allowing the mild to settle. It’s merely giving us a 5-7 day breather before the next batch of snow and cold arrives from Europe. The ECMWF for a couple of days now has suggested a significant push of bitter air roars back in from the east mid to late next week and with a low pressure nearby, SNOW has a good chance of returning!

The GFS 8-16 day continued to look warm up until I just checked it there.
Check this out now.. I expect this to get colder over the next 5 days as it sees what’s coming in from the east.
