As you know, the system sweeping through the Upper Midwest, Ohio Valley into the Mid-Atlantic Fri-Sat is no big snow maker. Expect generally 1-3 inches across a broad area extending from Minneapolis to Cleveland to Washington and from Charlotte to Hartford. Due to the cold air in place, there may be swaths of 2-4 inches with slightly higher amounts over the mountains of TN, NC, VA and WV.

As for Sun-Mon, the trough will start to lift out of the Northeast as heights rise further west. The residual cold in the Northeast could cause ICING issues as moisture develops over the Southeast and begins to lift northeast with ridging and southwest winds. It’s as the trough returns to the Plains that all the warmth and storminess heads east.

It turns warm again over the Southeast early next week with 80s for Florida, 70s through South Georgia and the Carolinas and this sets the stage mid next week for storminess which could turn severe over the Lower Mississippi Valley and points east with time.
