Chicago has finally topped the 1-inch mark for the season after a pathetic 0.4 inches of snow fell Saturday night which raises the city’s total to 1.3 inches. However, while this is an incredibly low amount of snow for this far into winter, according to AccuWeather, the latest Chicago has taken to see 1-inch of snow was back in 1944 when it took till Jan 8.

Amazingly, the typically snow starved southern cities of El Paso, Little Rock and Oklahoma City as well as many others are well ahead of Chicago which normally has a foot by now.

Chicago has yet to see a 1-inch plus snowfall and it is also continuing to add to it’s streak of 315 days without having an inch of snow on the ground.

The latest 1-inch plus snowfall to occur in Chicago was set back on Jan 17, 1899 but this record is unlikely to be broken. The coming mild surge will allow this streak to continue for quite some time yet but this is likely to end in around a week.
