Heavy snow continues to fall this evening across New England and adding to already high snow totals brought by Winter Storm Euclid. Many parts extending from western New York’s Adirondack’s, through Vermont, New Hampshire, western Massachusetts and especially Maine will see additional inches with many already tallying over a foot of snow since Boxing Day. Woodford, VT in a recent report picked up 21 inches, the highest total but I’m sure here and a few other spots will see the 2 foot mark before this system finally clears out, but a snowy night with tricky travel conditions is in store throughout tonight. Be careful out there.

One Storm Leaves, Another Follows, This Time For Coastal Northeast
While one storm clears, another will form. Two pieces of energy will need to be closely monitored over the next 48 hours. The 1st piece brings a coating to 3 inches across Iowa and will extend east, perhaps bringing Chicago it’s first inch of snow by Friday, this first piece as it heads due east will be eventually met by a larger circulation that is currently over the Four Corners. The secondary piece will drift east, then northeast, merging with the first piece later Saturday over the Virginia Capes. As the two pieces of energy converges, one main storm system develops and will intensify shooting NE off the coast. With the systems tracking to the south of Washington DC, coupled with enough cold air in place, we should see perhaps initial rain change to snow in DC while it’s a mostly SNOW event for Philadelphia, New York up through Hartford, Providence, Boston, Bangor. The coastal this time will see either all snow or at least a changeover.
Watch out SATURDAY AFTERNOON into NIGHT for a spell of moderate to heavy snow, along with 15-20 mph winds which could bring challenging travel conditions.
How much snow can be expected?
I expect the coast from the VA Capes up to the Delmarva to pick up 1-3 inches, the coast from Maryland, Jersey to Long Island, 2-4 inches, Northern LI up through coastal Mass, Maine 3-6 inches.
The I-95 from DC through Baltimore to south Philly 2-4 inches, Philly to New York, including Trenton, Newark 3-6 inches, I-95 from Hartford to Bangor including, 4-8 inches. West of I-95, 3-6 inches but the heaviest snows may fall close to the I-95 corridor, lower totals between DC and south Philly are due to possible rain initially.
