Scotland
After a day of snow showers across the Highlands and Grampian, rain showers across the South and a cold but largely bright day in the Central Belt, tonight will see a weak frontal boundary push south bringing snow showers to eastern areas and behind it will be a reinforcing shot of colder air. Beneath clear skies and colder air aloft, temperatures could sink to between -3 and -6C quite widely. Ice will be a significant problem through the night following showers.
A bright but cold day for much of the country on Wednesday with highs of only 1-3C for most. Another cold, if not colder night to come Wednesday into Thursday.
Thursday will see a band of rain, sleet and snow cross Scotland and it will be interesting to see how much snow falls as the depth of cold should be deeper than of late.
England
Today has been a cooler day than yesterday, breezier too and on that breeze, we’ve seen some lively showers rattle into the Northwest. Those showers extended south into the Liverpool, Manchester areas this afternoon. Through tonight and a weak front sinks south over Northern England, expected to reach the Midlands and frizzle by noon tomorrow. Following this, skies clear and with a push of colder air, it’s going to be a colder night to come compared to last night with a widespread frost from Carlisle down through Manchester and into the Midlands. The north wind could produce some snow showers over the higher ground of Yorkshire, maybe down nearer to the coast too.
A bright but cold Wednesday throughout England with highs of only 2-3C from Carlisle to Manchester, 3 or 5C from Birmingham to Bristol to London. Tomorrow night into Thursday may support the coldest night yet with some rural areas potentially taking a run at -8C.
On Thursday, a band of rain, sleet and snow will cross the country.
Wales
It’s been a cold, blustery day dominated by heavy showers rattling in on a stiff west wind. Through tonight and a weak front will draw colder air down from the north, it may bring flurries to parts, even at low levels but the noteworthy aspect of the night will be the increased ice risk as temperatures fall to near or even slightly below freezing.
Tomorrow will be a much brighter day but a good deal colder. In fact tomorrow is likely to be the coldest yet with highs struggling to only 3-5C for most, an odd flurry is possible but all in all it’s a bright, breezy and cold feeling day.
Tomorrow night will be a very cold night with a wdiespread hard frost and lows dipping widely to between -3 and -5C.
Northern Ireland
The cold theme continues for NI with a bright, breezy but showery day today. Highs only managed 3-5C and feeling colder in the wind.
Through tonight and the ice risk is high following the showers of today. Clear skies and cold air pushing down from the north means a cold night to come with lows widely dipping into negative territory. Some sheltered rural areas may see -5 or -6C.
Tomorrow will be bright but cold and even colder than today with highs of only 1-3C, feeling colder in the north breeze. Tomorrow night will be another cold one with a hard frost for many.
A band of rain, sleet and snow sweeps in from the northwest on Thursday.
Ireland
Like Northern Ireland and the UK, it’s been a largely fine, showery and cold day with highs barely topping 4 or 5C throughout Ireland. Tonight sees widespread clear skies and that means only one thing.. Frost, fog and an increased ice risk. Lows of 2 to -3C..
Tomorrow looks fine, dry but cold with highs again only rising to 4 or 5C at best. A NW wind will mnake it feel like it’s below freezing.
Another cold night to come tomorrow night. Rain, sleet and perhaps some hill snow on Thursday.
