Scotland
It’s been a cold day with many areas holding on to the frost and ice all day as temps rise to only 1-2C. Sheltered areas failed to crack the freezing mark. This ‘cold base’ sets the stage for another very cold late November night but there are subtle changes compared to last night’s widespread clear skies. Cloud and precipitation is spreading into western areas thanks to a front but the concern is that as this moisture pushes into the cold air, snow or freezing rain may cause significant icing issues.
Temps tonight range from 2-4C in the Western Isles to between 0 and -7C across the mainland.
Tomorrow will be another cold day with highs again struggling to reach 0C in the Highlands and Southern Uplands 1-3C elsewhere, snow showers are possible across not only the Highlands but down across the Central Belt, these snow showers may bring a light accumulation. Frost will once again remain on the ground throughout the day.
Another frost and very cold night is in store Fri into Sat.
England
After a cold late November day throughout England with highs of 3-6C, the stage is set for a very cold night and most likely the coldest night of the season as temps sharply tumble beneath clearing skies. Where showers linger and spread inland from off the Irish and North Seas, these may fall as rain or even snow. If they fall as rain, they will promote a significant ice risk.
Temps will be mildest in the southwest with lows down to 2-3C but with ground temps well below freezing, prepare for icy conditions. Tonight will be a colder one for eastern England extending down through East Anglia and the southeast. Interior England where it remains clear all night, temps may dive to between -4 and -7C.
Tomorrow will be coldest for many since last winter with highs only rising to between 2 and 4C for most. Showers working through Scotland may extend south into northern parts and these may fall as rain, sleet or snow to all levels. Tomorrow night will be another cold, frosty and icy night.
Wales
It’s been a cold but dry and bright day across a large swath of Wales and this will lead to an early dip in temps. It won’t be as cold as last night, where it fell to -6C at Tirabad due to the advance of clouds from the west. Any rain which pushes in will raise the ice risk as ground temps are at or below freezing. Lows sink to between 3 and -3C tonight.
Tomorrow will be cloudy with some light showers spreading in across the country. Highs will be slightly milder than today at 4-6C.
Northern Ireland
It’s a milder night across Northern Ireland compared to recent nights thanks to cloudier skies, these cloudy skies may bring light showers but as the night wares on, skies may clear some and this will raise the risk of ice. Lows -1 to 2C.
Tomorrow will be mainly bright with highs near 5C.
Ireland
A clear, cold, frosty.icy night is in store across much of Ireland thanks to clear skies and light winds. Lows range from 2 to -3C.
Tomorrow will be mainly dry, bright and cold once again with highs of 4-6C.
