Pressure from this monster storm could be into the low 940s in mb at the time Sandy makes landfall somewhere between Cape May and Sandy Hook, New Jersey later Monday. The size is frightening and the power it will pack even is more so.

Here are some of the impacts which can be expected from Sandy.

These include..

• 10+ foot storm surge/25 to 30 foot waves which could impact the coast anywhere from Ocean City, MD to Montauk, LI. This will bring the ocean and wave action into beach community streets.

• 70-100 mph ONSHORE winds will impact areas which lie NORTH of the centre, located from the coast to as much of 100-150 miles inland.

• Inland areas WEST of the centre will see NW winds gusting to 60-80 mph, which will bring tree & property damage

• A widespread area of 3-6 inches of rain is expected with areas likely to recieve over 10/12 inches. Flooding is imminent, especially in low lying areas.

• From the mountains of the Catskils to West Virginia (extending into Western NC), expect a broad swath of 8-12 inches of snow but narrower bands of 12-18 and 18 to 30 inches is expected. Combine 2-4 inch per hour snow rates and a howlling gale and power will be cut, power lines and trees will come down and communities could be cut off for days.

Preparation

• Have a full tank of gas
• Secure all garden future, any lose items
• Board up exposed windows

In Your Home…

• Be sure to have a fresh supply of batteries.
• Candles
• Water
• None perishable foods

Remember, you DO NOT have to be located by the ocean to have significant impacts from Hurricane Sandy. This will be massive and will affect millions of people.
