Scotland
The unsettled theme continues through this afternoon after a wet morning although we have seen some break in the rain during the early afternoon. Unfortunately that won’t last as we push towards the evening commute. The heavy and persistent rains which affected eastern Northern Ireland through much of today extends across the Channel and into Dumfries and Galloway where they’re showery in nature and could be thundery, they will push north into the Central Belt late this afternoon and into this evening. The rain continues working north up through the Highlands overnight, clearing from the Central Belt leaving behind a misty, murky night with showers here and there. Temps hold up at between 4-8C tonight. Through Friday it will be a day of mostly cloudy skies with limited brightness. Showers always a possibility and temperatures, dissapointing at only 10-13C.
England
If you live in the North, down through the Midlands and interior South and Southwest, it’s a generally fine, dry afternoon with a mix of sunshine and cloud, just an odd shower here and there. However, that stubborn frontal boundary lurking out over the English Channel and North Sea will continue to threaten the Southeast and East Anglia with rain. This boundary in coming days will get kicked west, northwest allowing much milder air across the country by early next week but until then, the rain chances and generally cloudy skies in that SE corner will linger through Saturday and Sunday. The South Coast also has the chance at showers spreading in from the south.
Through tonight and from the Midlands north towards Lancashire and Cumbria and it should be a fairly clear night and this will allow mist and fog to form readily. It could become very dense in some of the sheltered valleys such as the Vale of Trent, Vale of York etc. Temperatures drop off towards 5-7C in towns but nearer 2 or 3C in the countryside. Beneath the blanket of cloud over the Southeast and East Anglia and it’s mild at 11-13C with rain possibly pushing back onshore.
If you away from the Southeast, it should be a largely fine, dry day with decent spells of sunshine across the bulk of England after the mist and fog burns off. Temperatures rise to between 10C where fog may linger, 13-16C in the sun with an odd 17C possible.
Wales
Today has been a much better day throughout Wales with much lighter winds and plenty of sunny spells. The breeze is still there, especially along the coast but nothing like the past couple of days. Showers are most frequent along the coast, fewer and further between once you go inland. Highs generally 12-14C and that will feel more comfortable thanks to lighter winds.
Through tonight and winds continue to fall away with clear spells developing. This will allow mist and fog patches to form and temperatures cool to mid single figures for most.
Tomorrow and it’s a largely bright or sunny day, light winds and temperatures warm towards 16C in the South and this should be the best day in many.
Northern Ireland
After the heavy rains through this morning, particularly over eastern counties, the afternoon has turned more showery in nature with a break up of the more organised rains, winds will be relatively light and through this evening expect those showers to continue, keeping the temperatures up into high single figures with mostly cloudy skies.
Through Friday and showers may continue throughout the morning but pressures build and so the skies should turn brighter during the afternoon, setting the stage for the upcoming weekend.
Temperatures by day generally 10-13C, by night 5-10C.
Ireland
It’s been a rough past 24 to 48 hours across Ireland, especially across the South and Cork in particular. Today brought strong to gale-force northerly winds with heavy showers piling down across the country from the north. Into tonight and we should see an improving picture with both showers and winds easing through tonight. Clearing skies in the lighter winds mean mist and fog formation across many inland parts. Temperatures cool to the mid single figures.
Through Friday and a better day with a mix of sunshine and showers with tempeartures on the increase towards the weekend as a ridge builds in as the low kicks out.
