Heat Becomes Big Story Across USA In The Week Ahead (Includes Video!)

The upcoming work week will be dominated by headline grabbing heat and humidity as temps soar into the 110s in Phoenix, 105-110 in Vegas and even the Red Bluff, Redding areas of the northern Sac Valley. Temps will soar into the upper 90s in both Salt Lake and Denver today while we likely see the first of several 120s in Death Valley. There are key differences between Four Corners High and next system pushing into the Pac Northwest. Rather than this next system sliding into the Northwest and both breaking and pushing the SW heat east and weakening it, the ridge is finally strong enough now in which it re-routes the wave around it’s northern periphery. The system is key however to expanding the heat, not weaken it eastwards and so while the 110s even 120s remain over the Deserts, this primary heat source of North America will get expanded, creating an eventual near nationwide ridge by late week. The Northern Tier will act as the fight zone and the rong of fire will kick of powerhouse thunderstorms from the northern Rockies to upper Great Lakes. The the blowtorch crosses the Rockies, and really already has down so this weekend, expect to see highs Monday top 100 over Kansas, Nebraska and upper 90s over South Dakota over the next couple of days.Chicago will find itself just south of where the jet will flow out of the west, southwest and when beneath the nose of the jet on it’s southern edge, you can find enhanced heat through stronger sinking. That is why it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw the Windy City eyeball 100 on Tuesday. Upper 90s spread through Detroit, Cleveland while widespread mid-90s dominate the Plains and Ohio Valley. As for the East Coast, while inland 80s dominate the Northeast over the next couple of days, 90s will start creeping into the Northeast by midweek as heights rise and the ridge position becomes more favourable for shutting down the backdoor cooling over New England. Tuesday will still keep the highs below 90 for NYC and Boston but the real heat will begin working into the DC-Philly stretch of the I-95 corridor by Tuesday, perhaps tomorrow with mid or even upper 90s by Wednesday. While the blistering heat spreads out of the Ohio Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic Wednesday with mid and upper 90s from DC through Baltimore up to Philly, we should also see the first 90s for NYC and Boston with a possible mid-90s peak by Friday.

Heat Peaks With Near 100 For CHI Tuesday, Upper 90s For DC-PHL By Thurs-Fri While Cooling Kicks In For Lakes, Eventually Northeast At Same Time Heat Reloads Out West, En-Route To Southeast Next Weekend

While the heat peaks on the East Coast Thursday-Friday, the wave riding around the ridge will bring cooling relief into the Great Lakes and this will eventually cut the major heat over the Northeast. While we the the eventual cooling from the Lakes to Mid-Atlantoc by next weekend, we see the resurge of major heat over the Deserts and like we’re seeing now, that heat will initially push north with perhaps 100s even for Salt Lake and Denver, stretching all the way to Montana, then comes another Pacific system and exactly like this week, this will pump 100s east across the Plains and maybe even as far east this time as Arkansas, northern Louisiana, Tennessee while upper 90s dominate Atlanta and Charlotte. Further north the trough looks a little stronger and so it may not be as hot for such cities as Chicago, Detroit or Cleveland as this upcoming week.
