972mb low sweeps cold front across Ireland and UK bringing drenching rains and strong to gale-force winds

Throughout tonight, everywhere will see a period of strong to potentially gale-force winds along with a period of heavy rain which may see upwards of 1 inch widely over the next 12-24 hours while western exposed hills may pick up a good 2 inches.

The initial soaking from the frontal rain band will be followed by a rash of heavy, persistent showers accompanied by strong, gusty winds. The cold front shopuld have cleared most western and central areas by midday tomorrow and by tomorrow evening should be pushing across the North Sea and into the low countries and France. Read more!

Record Warmth For Mid-Atlantic & Northeast Today, Dangerous Conditions For Boston Marathon

For the very latest updates on the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic heat and more, see and ‘like’ my Facebook page, follow on Twitter also!

While inland areas of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast are warming through the upper 80s and even low 90s, east winds are kicking in along the coasts and trimming temps, creating a sizeable temp contrast between communities perhaps just 5 to 15 minutes apart.

New York as is often the case is a good example of this. While LaGuardia Airport in Queens (east of Midtown NYC) sweated it out at 85 degrees, it was a refreshing 71 degrees at JFK which sits southeast of Manhattan way out at Jamaica Bay, open to cooling Atlantic winds.

As for Boston, they were at 84 degrees while out on Cape Cod it was not just cool but perhaps chilly at 59 degrees. Info by Jesse Ferrell.
