2011-2012 Becomes Snowiest On Record For Anchorage, Alaska

“If you think Anchorage’s snow total is impressive, it’s nothing compared to the typically much snowier town of Valdez, where 437.2 inches has piled up this season! That’s around 36 feet. Believe it or not, this is well below the all-time record of 550.7 inches set in the 1989-1990 season.

The huge amounts of snow in Alaska this winter are in stark contrast to the rest of the United States, where it was relatively mild and snowless. Minneapolis, Minn. and Syracuse, N.Y. saw just 42 percent of their average seasonal snowfall.Boston, Mass. was just 22 percent of average!”

Wet Sunday Turning Wetter Across Ireland Tonight, UK Tomorrow

The rest of today will be wet with an area of rain pressing southwards through southern Scotland, England and Wales, followed closely behind by a larger area of rain which will sweep across Ireland and Northern Ireland tonight. During tomorrow morning, this rain will reach the western UK mainland and slowly spread east during Monday.

Wind will increase along this next frontal system as associated with a nearby low pressure centre to the north. This rain won’t be a solid area of heavy rain but it will be more showry in nature but the most persistent and oragnised rain will be across Wales, the west Midlands down into the Southwest. Strongest winds will impact southern and exposed western areas with gusts of 50 mph possible along the Southwest and Channel coast. Read More!
