A Flattening Out Of The Jet Stream Over Europe This Weekend Onwards Means A
Moderation In Western Warmth, EasternCold!
After a few weeks now of persistent Azores high pressure dominance over the UK/Ireland down into France and persistent troughiness over the eastern continent where cold air has drained south from the arctic into Russia, the overall pattern looks to see, finally, a flattening out of this wavy pattern and this means a breaking down of the persistent western ridge and eastern trough. These two areas have brought opposites in the temperature departures with persistent 5-10C above normal over the UK, 5-10C below normal over Russia now and for the first time in weeks, it appears this weekend into next week sees a much more fluid, free flow of west to east Atlantic air. For the first time, there will be nothing to block ocean air from finally reaching Moscow and their eastern neighbours. This means a proper thaw for the European Russians and the warmest temps in many weeks.
As for the UK, the ridge breaks down and so we turn more unsettled with weather systems allowed to sweep in off the Atlantic, pulling cooler air in, perhaps we may actually get some below normal temperatures finally, even some snow?
