Very cold start across Western Canada following snowstorm, now Prairies under the gun

CALGARY DIPPED TO AT LEAST -13C THIS MORNING!

Yesterday saw the first significant snow of the season over southern and central Alberta with 2-6cm falling and causing major travel issues for Calgary and surrounding areas.

The snows falling through very cold -9C temps during the morning and only -6C during the afternoon meant slicker conditions.

Here are the expected totals through today.

The below graphic illustrates just how cold it was yesterday across southern and central AB. The yellow readings actually show how warm it was the the same day last year. Quite amazing eh?

The below graphic shows just how chilly it got overnight over southern AB following the snowstorm which lay down the white, reflective blanket and of course the system itself transported cold air south and east. Clear skies, light winds, fresh snow on the ground and a reinforcing shot of chilly air helped drive overnight readings into the -20s C in some spots.
