WEATHER WARNING: Heavy, Wind Driven Rains for Northern Ireland, Scotland & North of England throughout Sunday Night & Monday
1-2 inches of rain can be expected from Sunday night and through Monday from the Central Highlands, through the main M8 Corridor, down through Dumfries and Galloway into Cumbria and Lancashire. Poor travel conditions are expected and accompanying these heavy, squally pulses of rain will be strong west winds which are likely to top 60 mph in gusts in exposed areas. Some exposed north-south routes such as sections of the A9 and the northernmost section of the M6 through the Solway plain connecting Scotland with Cumbria may see some nasty wind gusts and may pose issues for high profile vehicles due to lack of protection from the strong west wind blowing up the Solway Firth. Nasty surface water and spray is likely to be an issue for sure so I urge real caution, drop your speed and please put on your lights.
These heavy, squally bands of rain and wind will rattle south through the UK during Monday afternoon and evening, bringing intense, narrow bands of rain and periods of gusty winds. On the rear of this front which is energized by two contrasting air masses (thus the reason for some very intense pulses of rain) will come much cooler air. Over the Highlands, a boundary seperates cool, even relatively mild air with cold northerly air and areas at or above 400 metres are prone for a quick change from heavy rain to heavy snow. Because of the strong winds, this may produce near blizzard conditions at times.
