Inchmahome Priory (on an island out in the Middle of Lake of Menteith)

Pressure Crack

Hamlet of Port of Menteith
Lake of Menteith, Stirlingshire, Scotland with 9-12 inch thick ice which allows individuals, families and pets to enjoy the holiday Monday skating, skiiing or going for a walk shore to shore or to Inchmahome Priory.
I spoke with a lovely elderly lady back on the frozen shore who was awaiting her husband to return from his walk out to ancient Inchmahome island which is about a mile off shore… She told me that Lake of Menteith has frozen over like this twice in her lifetime, the last being the 1970s..
I also ventured out to Inchmahome Priory which was founded back in 1238 by the Earl of Menteith, it was like a step back in time with both the Priory and the frozen lake…

Thanks for reading.

    >Hi,

That ice is pretty thick and the cracks are frozen solid so dont worry, there was plenty of people on it and its in many of todays newspapers..

Have a good time, I hope to be back a few times myself… what I would say is just watch as it's a bit slippy in places

    >Hey Mark…

Heading there shortly. Is it safe to walk from the car park jetty [near the hotel/restaurant] to the island with kids & a dog?

Should I worry about the cracks?

    Thanks
