>Todays Extremes here at my house
High 30 degrees (12.31pm) Low 17 degrees (1.38am)
SNOW: None (first day with no snowfall since Saturday)
Snowcover: 4″
After the lowest reading of December and season here and an impressive 14 degree low in Glasgow, those numbers could have been even lower had it not been for clouds moving through the area which stopped the radiational cooling process early. We saw a decent recovery but ice and frozen snow from yesterday’s heavy afternoon snow made for a treacherous morning on the roads across the country. I struggled at times along the ice-stricken routes between Glasgow and Dumfries with a particularly bad section along the M74 between Happendon and Abington. We did hit a reasonably mild 30 degrees but highs over the next couple of days are likely to fall short of this number, perhaps bringing the coldest air in some 10 years to the area for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Of course, I describe it as a 'freak' event. For coastal regions of the Kingdom, I think this description is apt given that the deluge was unpredicted.
