>Well it’s now 4.51pm and I am not long home, about 25 mins ago to be exact…
My alarm went off this morning at 2am, up at 2.15am and off to work by 3.
Arrived, checked in and on the road by 3.30am.
All was going well apart from the fact that I had a different truck and as you all know, it’s takes a minute or two to find lights, wipers and generally get use to a different feel vehicle. This truck is slightly wider so I needed to bare that in mind.
Ok, departed Glasgow and onto the M8, M73 and finally the M74 which takes me the majority of the way south for the 75 miles to Dumfries.
As I passed Hamilton and enetered the dark stretch of the motorway I find about 12 or so miles later that my leever which controls the lights (full beam), wipers, indicators SNAPS OFF COMPLETELY and deemed useless, I stop off at the nearby Happendon services, who do I call at 4.30am in the morning?? I didn’t know the depot number outwith the normal office which is normal business hours..
Finally having wakened up Karen (my wife) and a supervisor/work mate ON HIS DAY OFF I finally get contacting the depot and back I go the some 24 miles north towards Glasgow in darkness, since my side lights are useless on a dark stretch of motorway, luckily the lit portion of the motorway as you pass Hamilton was only 11 miles.. A nightmare…
Once back in Glasgow, reloaded and on another vehicle, I was some 2 hours behind schedule now..
Long and short of it all I arrived home finally around 4.20pm this afternoon as after my Dumfries run I normally reload and head out to various places within Ayrshire including Largs and Saltcoats…
A day id rather forget! Hope you had a better day!!
Thanks for reading.
