The Bermuda high is finally making some progress at pushing the deep summer-spoiling trough west over the Great Lakes and a nice steamy, hot and hazy summers day is on tap for what has been a remarkably cool July across the urban Northeast to Great Lakes. The cool continues out across the Midwest with morning lows this morning dropping into the 60s with some areas even into the chilly 50s, enough to bring out a light jacket for heading out to work.
Meanwhile it has started off warm and sultry across the Eastern Seaboard with morning lows dropping off to more typical summertime levels in the low 70s, a hot and very sticky more typical air is sweeping out of the tropics and will envelope the Washington-Boston corridor in a thick, soupy air mass that will feel quite unpleasant since some 55 million people have not experienced much of a true summertime air mass since way back in April, the warm air already in place to commence the day will set the base for daytime heating and those high, Caribbean or Gulf humidity levels within an upper 80 to low 90 degree air mass will feel draining to be outdoors so please use caution. This would have been a run of the mill summers day back last year or recent years when there would have been maybe 6 to 10 upper 80s to low 90s by now but this should actually be considered a “hot day” for a region that’s endured a cool summer.

Mark’s forecast high’s today..

WASHINGTON 92

BALTIMORE 91

PHILADELPHIA 91

NEWARK 90

NEW YORK CENTRAL PARK 88 / LAGUARDIA 89

BOSTON 89

All the steamy air will make for a very hazy afternoon with poor air quality across this vastly populated corridor of the nation. This is another good aspect to a cooler summer, less ground level ozone build up and for those that hate the heat, this has been great. Those who love heat, you should have been in Texas this summer then.

Also of interest apart from major storms blowing up as well as the cool across the heartland, Great Lakes and areas of the Northeast as two very different air masses rub against each other, major heat is flowing up into the Pacific Northwest where Seattle may creep into the UPPER 90s today whilst many areas east of the Cascades will top 100 today, some hots spots may near 110 today. The Desert Southwest will warm over 110 from Vegas to Phoenix, Death Valley may get towards 125 degrees today.
