Rest of Europe
No change to my thinking on this Sunday’s chill followed by a ‘bark but no bite’ ESE wind early next week before the next Atlantic low sweeps in Tuesday. The coldest days come this weekend with tomorrow’s stinging NE wind followed by a clearer, calmer but colder Sunday where we may start off -3 to […]
It’s an active pattern these days with the disruptive passage of Storm Eleanor yesterday and another today, though thankfully not as strong. Eleanor brought impressive gusts to N Ireland and parts of N England overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. https://twitter.com/BBCNewsNI/status/948547851692527617 https://twitter.com/BBCNews/status/948524913442349056 Easterly develops early next week but beast from east? After another windy day today, and […]
Storm Eleanor sweeps W-E across Northern Ireland and southern Scotland tonight packing 70-80 mph gusts on it’s southern flank. This puts the Republic, southern Northern Ireland, northern England and SW Scotland in the firing line. Gusty winds of 40-50 mph possible anywhere in England and Wales, less windy beneath and north of the low over […]
We’re just hours away from saying goodbye to 2017 and hello 2018. It’s turned milder in the last few days following the season’s biggest snowfall to date thanks to the arrival and speedy departure of Storm Dylan. https://twitter.com/MarkVogan/status/947424155393232896 Top gusts from Storm Dylan https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/947425119944798208 https://twitter.com/bbcweather/status/947410475855335424 https://twitter.com/bbcweather/status/947383065613041664 As the afternoon wears on, winds ease and sunshine […]
As expected, widespread, heavy and disruptive snow swept in overnight cutting short a cold night with a penetrating frost. It was the first significant snow for the Central Lowlands and 2nd and in some cases 3rd significant snow for parts of northern and central England bringing beautiful scenes but tricky travel. https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/946632305690456064 https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/946709404593815552 The motorways […]
UPDATE: Loch Glascarnoch now at -10.1C as of 9.30pm. ORIGINAL POST As the isobars open up so winds turn calm this evening. Widespread clear skies, light winds over fresh snow cover has set the stage for potentially the coldest night of winter for the UK. Ahead of an Atlantic system, temperatures could approach -13 to […]
Late White Christmas/Boxing Day 2017 for parts of S Scotland, N England, More snow moves in tonight!
Last year witnessed a wild Christmas Eve to Boxing Day period with severe gales, record warmth and a late white Christmas followed by cold and snowy Boxing Day. This year has been a little less extreme but we did witness a late white Christmas/Boxing Day across parts of central, southern Scotland and northern England as colder air […]
Up until Sunday of last weekend we had a pretty decent spell of winter but as is often the case, it doesn’t last forever and we’re now back in the mild, mucky Atlantic flow. Our cold spell brought some cold nights with Dalwhinnie and Shawbury registering a minimum of -13C and spectacular days such as this […]
