While Easter 2020 will be far from anything anybody’s witnessed before, the weather will actually be not too dissimilar to last year which turned out record warm throughout the UK.

Like last Easter, we have a nice warm, near summer-like high centred east of the UK off the Danish, Dutch coast, as this system strengthens and drifts south today, temperatures reflect late May or early June.

Today was the warmest day for Scotland overall but as winds turn more west, southwest tomorrow, Aberdeenshire could see 21C. Further south, 26C is likely over Southern England.

However by Easter Sunday, that high hands over the batten to another high building south out of Iceland.

This will force an abrupt 360 in wind direction. While warmth clings to southern areas, further north and temps struggle to make 10C.

By Easter Monday we have quite the remarkable flip from the previous 48 hours as a biting northeast wind will keep most barely above 10C with wind chills in low single figures.

The high builds overhead Monday night into Tuesday so expect a pretty widespread frost under clear, calm skies.

So to recap…

Thanks to a front and associated cloud, Scotland’s northwest was downright cold while the Borders was pleasantly warm on Wednesday as the first 20s appeared further south.

Yesterday (Thursday) still had the contrast over Scotland similar to Wednesday but south of the border was a fraction warmer than the previous day with 24.4C at Wiggonholt, Sussex yesterday vs 23.9C at Herstmonceux Wednesday.

However, yesterday morning opened very cold in Scotland’s far north! -6.3C at Altnaharra but Kinbrace came in at -6.7C.

This afternoon and the warmth spread north into Scotland. Nothing exceptional but noticeably warmer than recent days. 25C was reached further south.

The warmth peaks over England and Wales tomorrow before we get the reverse in fortune starting Easter Sunday.

I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Easter 2020!
